The Accident on Jacobo Majluta Avenue

Once upon a time, in the busy city of Santo Domingo, there lived a Dominican man named José. José was known by everyone for being a bit foolish, something people noticed because of his big lips, or bembe.

José had a bright orange Hyundai Sonata. He loved his car, even though people often made jokes about it. One hot afternoon, José was driving down Jacobo Majluta Avenue. He was daydreaming, not paying attention to the road.

Suddenly, a loud honk woke José up from his thoughts. But it was too late! In front of him was a big bus, called the “guagua de plátano” because it carried lots of plantains. José tried to stop his car, but his Sonata crashed into the back of the bus.

The crash made a loud noise, and everyone nearby turned to look. People stopped and stared at the scene. The front of José's Sonata was smashed, but the bus only had a little damage. The bus was strong, built to carry heavy loads of plantains.

José got out of his car, looking shocked and confused. His bembe was shaking. People gathered around, some laughing and whispering about José. “It had to be him,” one person said, shaking his head. “Only José could crash into a bus on a straight road in the middle of the day.”

The bus driver, a big man named Ramón, got out of the bus. He looked at José and sighed. “What were you thinking?” he asked, though he did not expect a good answer.

José, still in a daze, said, “I don’t know... I was just... thinking about... things.”

Ramón rolled his eyes. “Well, let’s fix this. At least no one is hurt, and the plantains are okay.”

The crowd started to leave, and the story of José’s accident spread quickly. People talked about it for days, laughing at how silly it was. For José, it was just another day, another accident, and another reminder of his bembe and the trouble it brought.

And so, the story of José and his orange Sonata became even more famous, adding another funny chapter to his life in Santo Domingo.
